Hi All
Some of us went up to Dundee in the KwaZulu-Natal interior this weekend to look for butterflies in new places. We went up a hill called mPathi on Saturday, and there weren't many new butterflies, but I did get my first ever upperside shot of a Patrician Blue Lepidochrysops patricia on digital: ![]() Then on Sunday we went up a bigger hill called Ndumeni (Place of Thunder). Here I managed my first ever (film OR digital) upperside shot of a female Black Heart Uranothauma nubifer. There were some males about as well, but they were much too wary! ![]() Then Christiaan Gunther, owner of the farm on which Ndumeni sits, took us to some nearby San (Bushman) paintings. Despite living in South Africa for nearly 30 years I've never seen one of these before. The D80 with R1 flash kit giving extreme side lighting lit this rather well. I didn't have to wet the painting to make it stand out, which is a good thing as this eventually ruins them! Enjoy! Cheers Steve __________________

It's an Eland - our biggest antelope. Tail end is to the L. No idea how old these paintings are, but the artists died out early in the 20th century after years of persecution by Zulus and Boers. Cheers Steve __________________
