Default Ladybug in spider's web

I was watching this harlequin trying to negotiate a corner on the outside wall of my conservatory. It was a tight corner for her and she slipped and fell into a spider's web. The spider ran to it at first but then ran away. The ladybug extricated herself from the web but was injured in the process extruding some body fluid.

Lovely series Gautam. AFAIK that's a defensive mechanism ladybirds have (exuding a noxious liquid)

Thanks Brian. Possibly the spider ran away because of that.

Well done Gautam!

Yes Brian's right... ladybugs' colours are a warning that they taste nasty and they are able to exude a foul smelling (and no doubt tasting) fluid when handled. Many butterflies do the same thing.

All the best

Steve
