You get close by watching the bugs and being very careful .
If you want to dip your toes into macro then a good way to start is using an extension tube set (eg Kenko) on existing lenses - a 50mm prime is ideal but will work well on zooms. After that then if still interested a prime macro lens around 100mm is good and that will work well with the extension tubes for higher mags.
