Default Stacked larva, and some at tiny apertures

Hi All

I was trying to photograph some larvae at a friend's house last week. This Slug Moth Latoia vivida larva - a horribly urticating little devil - sat peacefully whilst I stacked him.

And then there was this Common Fig-tree Blue larva that would NOT keep still - all attempts to get a series for a stack failed. So I left the camera on the tripod and stopped down all the way to f40 for this one:

And f57 (!) for this:

The stack allows you to see really fine detail but the tiny apertures aren't bad - there is no dramatic softening but the f57 one definitely doesn't has as much 'punch as the f40 one.

All the best

Steve

Good ones Steve.
No " rules" on aperture- just have to use what you need to get the shot.

The small aperture seems to be a lot less work than focus stacking. Seems that would take forever to do many shots stacked. I assume you guys that do focus stacking use CS4 for the auto stacking feature? Though, I hear that even that is sloooowwwww.

Superb shots Steve. For moving objects a small aperture is the only option to get some DoF. You have done very well.

Lovely series, the light on #1 is particularly nice.

I used to use CombineZP all the time and it is slow... have been using Helicon Focus recently on appro it's a lot faster and runs on the Mac but $250 CZP is free... and I have Parallels on the Mac.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like too much work for me, but it definitely gives good results!
