Another excellent outing, Brian. That St. Marks guy needs to put some meat on them bones. That lost fly is my favorite, just because it really looks lost. Poor thing.

I suspect #1 had only just hatched but always wonder how they got that name- St Marks fly or March fly. I very rarely see them in March or April.

The large female hawthorn flies begin hatching around St Mark's day, which is 25th April, although their smaller mates are sometimes seen a week or so earlier. The hatch is generally over by mid May.
