Default Stolen flowers

Well, I don't know if it counts as stolen if no one cares that you took the flowers without asking. I dropped my son off at school and picked some Daffy's that are growing outside there. Here are two of the shots that I thought were ok. Feel free to comment, negative as well as positive.

Oh, and the 70-200 is quickly becoming my favourite macro lens...if you turn it around anyway. The non-macro one was taken with my 17-40, which I love too.

Sara

I think the first one is very nicely framed Sara. Backdrop works well too. I won't comment on helping yourself to daffys - except to say it's probably a criminal offence in this country .

Wow. I really like the second one. It straddles the boundary between photography and art, which is what you need, I think.

Looking at your and Paul's flower pictures this morning reminded me of Amy Lamb, whom I consider to be the premier flower photographer today: http://www.amylamb.com/ She lives right down the road from me, but we've never met.

I look at her work from time to time to see how mine is matching up. Unfortunately, I often get discouraged.

Good link. Amazing work she has there. Shows some real craft and dedication to her art. Why haven't you got her posting here then? I'm sure we could give her some advice if needed .

[edit]

I like this review of her work in the Washington Post:

“Countless artists churn out hackneyed depictions of the overflowing vase or solitary blossom, but in this ocean of mediocrity, some, such as photographer Amy Lamb, will create fresh, captivating images of petals and perianths, making sense of the mania…. Whether fruit or flower, her subjects are usually at the peak of perfection. On a symbolic level, they serve, as they have for centuries, as allegories for the transient nature of life and beauty.”

I shall save this quote and use it as my reply for all (well most) of the flower shots posted here (including my own) - beats 'nice shot' . Seriously, I'm very impressed after seeing some of her work and find it very inspiring - which is what you want to feel when seeing such dedication and quality.

Yeah, I know I'm probably on my way to prison but I must be a hardened criminal at heart because I'd do it again!

Thank you, I'm glad you liked the picture.

Gosh, thank you.

Thank you for that link, I don't know that I'll ever match up to her quality, but it is good to have something to shoot for (umm...sorry about the pun ). She really does beautiful work. I agree with Paul, you should try to get to know her and invite her to the group!

I was wondering who stole my flowers. Thanks for taking pictures of them so that I could file the police report

You want me to come over and introduce Amy to PhotoCamel and you too JD? It won't take 2 minutes for her to be putty in our hands after she experiences first-hand my Animal Magnetism

Hehe...yeah, and I plan to come back for the rest of them later! Better put up some barbed wire fencing around your flower beds!
