The theme for our eighth Macro Challenge will be Fabric.
This challenge will run throughout the month of April. You may submit your own original work shot during or before the challenge. I encourage everyone to get out and make some NEW photos for this challenge. We can all find a bit of fabric to shoot, heh? ![]() Please post your images in this thread along with any technical information you would like to share such as camera, lens, shutter speed, aperture, iso, lighting conditions, post processing, location, subject details, etc. I will award (and so can all of you!) karma for outstanding work. __________________

Nikon D70 with the Nikkon 28-70/3.5-4.5 lens in macro mode. The sweater was hanging on a clothesline and was backlit by the 2PM sun. I flipped the picture upside down in post processing so you could read the label without getting a crick in your neck

Really like the colors there, Bob.
I thought you are using a compact camera. If so, the shallow DOF is kind of surprising for a small sensor cam. |

Thanks aam1234.
You have an excellent memory. I am using the small sensor Canon A630 but I have a Telesar Macro Attachment which Increases the magnification and reduces the DOF. It does not create a true macro ratio of 1:1, but it does create a 2.5:1 ratio. I sometimes connect my camera to a tv screen and then compose the macro shots. The nice photo of the towel which you posted reminds me of a similar towel that my mother use to have in the kitchen. Enjoy each day. |

Ah, now that makes sense.
As for the towel, I got those from Ikea, they are like 50 cents each, or something like that. |

Thanks Athena. The webbing in the photo is a single piece of webbing about 2" wide with no support frame and yet it looks like it is a chair frame with many pieces of webbing wrapped around the frame.
If I remember correctly you have a Canon 5D. I may buy one in the near future and I was wondering if you would know if my ancient f 4.5 Sigma 70 -230 zoom lens from my Canon AE 1 would fit onto the 5D body? This photo shows the end of my lens. There are 2 sliding prongs, 1 silver screw head and 1 silver protruding stop which looks like a screw without a slot on the top. Does this look similar to your lenses? Thanks. |

Not at all - I don't have those protruding bits. But there could very well be some sort of adaptor that would make it fit (I am not terribly technical, so probably not a good person to ask lol). I assume you'd be limited to MF though. What kind of camera are you using now?

For many years I had a Canon AE 1 with a Canon f1.2 55 mm lens and the Sigma lens. I sold the body and the lens and took my first plunge into the digital world 18 months ago when I bought a Canon A630 which has full manual control and an articulated lcd screen. Great camera but the small senser 7mm x 5mm has its limitations.
The new CAnon Rebel xsi looks good but I would prefer a full frame such as the Canon 5D. I assume Canon may come out with a new full frame camera so the price of the 5D should come down. If I were not so parsimonius I would buy the top of the line Canon camera!!!!. |

Me too! But the 5D is a really lovely camera. If you decide to go for it, I'm sure you'll love it as I do.
