Default Lens reversal macro ring

Does anyone have any experience with these?
It looks like a filter ring without glass, and it has threads on both ends of it.
You screw it onto your lens, and then screw another lens onto it, backwards.
It is supposed to give you great macro. But I have several questions.
Should you use zoom lenses or primes?
Do you then have to fight with focusing both lenses?
How close can you get to an object?
How close do you HAVE to be to an object?
Does it turn out to have central focus, looking like a shot from a Lens Baby?

Thanks in advance.
Alan

Reversing one lens onto another works well.
Magnification= FL primelens/FL reversed lens
Does not have to be prime lenses but obviously better if they are.
The reversed lens is set to infinity focus and wide open aperture- control is all via the primary lens.
Focus is fairly close (1 to 2" in front of the reversed lens) normally focus is achieved by setting the primary lens and then moving the camera towards the subject. No you don't get a lens baby effect.

I have been waiting for a coupling rings bought via ebay from my friends in HK for a couple weeks... I discovered in the mean time... B&H has had them all along.

lens coupler

Seems like most are reversing 50mm primes. There are TONS of fast quality 50s on the market...cheaper than a set of tubes in many instances.

I use the reversing ring with my Nikon 50mm 1.8 lens with excellent results. You can get a magnification that is beyond anything with just a macro lens plus a Nikon 5T or 6T (close focusing filters).
