Calibrating and color checking my new monitor. This one looks spot on for color, raw to jpg. conversion with some unsharp mask only.

19" Samsung.* Here in Colombia, they have the best ratings and warranty...3 years.
Now the bad news. Immediately after I took this photo I had just shot another and it was transferrring a raw image to the CF card I got a low battery warning then it just stopped. I changed batteries and I guess it messed up the EEPROM because the camera is dead. When I turn it on I hear the normal start-up noise but after about 30 seconds the led flashes once and an ERR message is displayed on the data LCD, no other response. Darn, hate to lose another camera, just lost my Oly because of water damage now this. Oh well, still have a few more. These stinking computers with a lens are not to reliable. |

Interesting concept......how do you reformate the card in the camera when the camera won't turn on?* That would be a first.
Update:* Took the camera to the camera hospital and they performed an apendectomy and fixed it....all for $66. here in Colombia. In the meantime I bought a twin so now I have a pair. I bought these Dimage cameras for their infrared ability (no anti-ailiasing filter), now I'll leave one with the Hoya 72 infrared filter on it all the time and use it stricly for infrared. |

Of course i can format the card with my PC throught the card reader but it is recommended by my camera manufacture that you only format the card in the camera.
That said, that WAS the first thing I tried when it wouldn't start except that doesn't make sense either because the camera wouldn't initiate even without any card in it (it is supposed to) and give a card not found message. |

it seems as though mine keeps adding new folders (took out 8 folders because only 2 actually had images) - so I delete all folders through the computer.
Since I am still trying to figure things out - I tried that image recovery software just to see how much it recovers) and found the folders were filled again (with old photos). |

That's because you never really erase the files, they are just covered up. If you trully want to format the card, you have to use a low-level formatting that writes all the files back to "O" Zero's. I use a file killer the same as killing a Hard drive but then you have to reformat so the files can be placed on the disk.

It seems after I recently upgraded the firmware on my Minolta it put a strain on the circuits and it developed an "open circuit". I sent it to the hospital in Medellin and they repaired it for $66 USD. When I compare that to shipping it back to the states and paying Sony $211 MINIMUM, it looks like a stroke of luck....it seems to be O.K.now.
