Default Exposure problem with Nikon SB800 on D70

When using the Nikon SB800 on the D70, the results seem to be underexposed by about 1 stop in the TTL and AA modes. The exposure is good in the TTL/BL mode. Test exposures where done in a very dimly lit residential interior, f/5.6 1/500, manual mode, ISO 200, matrix metering. At those settings, any amibient light would be negligible, and all the light would come from the flash. Has anyone else noticed flash exposure problems with this or similar equipment?

Will the D70 sync at 1/500? I seem to remember that this is the top end of its ability. In any case, the flash will have to put out some mightly light to help you at f/5.6 1/500.

Hi,
No I haven't noticed this - work's ok for me regardless of settings provided subject is in range. D70 will sync ok at 1/500 so f5.6 isn't too demanding, unless you are talking about a cavenous hall (unlikely). Only thing I can suggest is to check you haven't accidentally set the flash to underexpose (ie facility for use with fill flash). Otherwise suggest go back to manual and check it step by step to identify the problem.

I have not had much luck with digital and ttl or auto modes with flash. I have gone to using Manual mode only. I tried figuring out what was going on but with digital, it's so sensitive to the light I gave up.
