Can anyone please give me any insights on what light setup and exposure type might help me achieve images similar to the following two ?
I only have two fluorescent lamps, a 580ex flash which I can use off shoe and a couple of windows facing South ![]() Thank you very much. PS My most sincere apologies to the author of these pics which I do not know and to which I would have liked to extend the proper credits. PPS Think the best lens in my limited arsenal would be the 50mm f/1.4 on Canon 40D EDIT: Images removed as they were 1) nudes and not appropriate to this forum, and 2) not the OP's original work. I suggest that the OP repost in the glamour forum with links to the images rather than embedding them. __________________

First, I don't believe nudes are permitted in the open forums, and anyway the owners of the site frown on attaching images that aren't yours (unless you have the owner's permission).
Anyway, what you want to do is read up on "High Key" and "Low Key" images...that's the two techniques used in the above images. Go into Google Images and you can see examples of both there. |

I am really sorry ... did not realize I broke some many rules and really feel bad about it. I am trying to edit the post to remove the images but cannot manage to. Anyone can tell me how ?
Re HighKey LowKey, thank you, I do know about these terms and the concept but was asking specifically if any person with more experience could understand the type of light used (diffuser, umbrella, strobe etc.) etc. Thank you Bob |

My guess is the model in the first image was just sitting fairly close to a brightly lighted white background with no other lighting.
My guess on the second image is the model was a fair distance in front of a black background and lighted with a strip box fitted with a grid. I would say the light was camera right, and placed closer to the background than the model, and pointed back at the model. I am always open to being proven wrong. Edit: My reasoning for the second image being lighted by a gridded strip box is the lack of light wrap-around you would get with a large softbox. |
