Default A useful wireless flash transmitter

I know this is not exactly high quality but for NZ$65 [ probably about $50 US ] it has a switch for two channels and mounts directly onto the hotshoe of your camera .
The pickup takes two AAA batteries and has an on-off button . It states the range as 15 metres but I had it working at about 30 m when I tested it with the new batteries . For people who don't like cables from the camesa to the flash bracket and want to be able to quickly change to wireless flash it is pretty useful . I have hooked it up to me nissin 360TW thyristor auto flash and will be doing some test shots next week ..

My experience with these (I have two sets--one that uses AC for the receivers and one that uses AA batteries) is that they really do work well. I also have a set of PocketWizard MultiMax units that are overkill for may situations (price-wise). I have used them with a variety of monoheads and powerpack/head combinations.

I use one that's very similar simply to eliminate the PC cord. I've used it outdoors at a diving meet at a distance of about 25M... it started missing when the transmitter battery got weak.

I love it, worth every penny.

The receiver takes AAA batteries , the transmitter has a battery that came with it and I haven't opened it up yet so maybe I should and get a spare . I think it will also be useful at wedding receptions when people are giving speeches ... set the flash up near something reflective and go and sit down....

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List...px?id=56392155 , this is the link to the auction that has closed , I threw the packing away since it does not look like the highest quality there are probably better brands out there but the guy I got it from is in Auckland New Zealand and his email is hsehse017@xtra.co.nz [ plenty of Asians in New Zealand doing business over the internet] . Probably someone else here can provide a link to a more readily available model local to you ?

Similar one (1) and four (4) channel transmitters with receiver units are available at the following website site www.goldenshell.com.cn they sell for around $20 USD and work well, based on my experience, i.e. I have four (4) sets. Note, prices for these units are not listed on the website, so I have referred to their catalog for the conversion from RMB to USD. As for being made in China, well, what isn’t made in China, especially electronics? Operating instructions are in English and Chinese.

PC Sync cord from the camera to the flash. Not a USB cord.

Canon does make a wireless system that will work with the 20D (with the latest firmware) to transfer images to your computer. But it isn't cheap...

I was playing with that idea for event photography [ wedding anniversaries etc.] , the closest I have come is getting a TV card for my laptop and plugging it into my Tv cable on the Cannon G6 while it is on the tripod . Wireless would be great .

Desmond,
We do that all the time with pick-a-pack jobs. (Posed sports or school photos).

Plug the camera into a TV that displays the image & image number.
We use two TV's, one for me, one for the person taking orders and writing down image numbers as I shoot.
Easy, and FAST.

Desmond,

Its better to keep things low-tech when on location. No sense is getting "Murphy" involved (remember Murphy's laws: If something can go wrong it will, at the worst possible time).

A couple of 13" color TVs should be fine for your needs and dedicate them to nothing but location shoots. You can even put them in moving cases and wrap towls or sheets around them to keep them from getting damaged.

Good luck,

I have a TV card now for my laptop , don't own a TV [ haven't watched Tv for 4 years now ] , and it works well . If it had to fail I could just unplug it . I am talking about inside a reception hall here with ac power supply etc. If it had to fail I can simply unplug it and go back to ' normal ' again ....
