I have mentioned before that I would like to set up an empty frame for guests at a wedding to pose in for pictures . I want it to be a feature that can be used by the guests themselves when I am busy elsewhere . The main thing though , I have seen this setup before without lighting , is to have some simple lighting set up behind the frame so the imperfections of auto-flash aren't so noticeable . I don't want to spend heaps on expensive lighting , maybe just some " normal " lights connected to a motion sensor so that when someone goes behind it , they come on . What advice for non-specialist lights to use ? [ I am an auto electrician so can play a bit ] Also advice on placement of lights , I would imagine shining down from the two top corners ?

How about a couple of slave flash units like the ones at the link below? They are cheap, small and light and you could even mount them in place with masking tape or similar.

Hmmm , I will have to look into that , I suppose that would mean they have to be left on all night though if the frame is ther for guests to use at will. I had thought of "normal" lighting with a motion sensor , that way they will come on for a minute from a small 12 volt battery when there is movement behind the frame . I will check the price of those flash units in NZ .
