Default Wein Peanut and Nikon Flash

In an attempt to expand my flash capability I am thinking of getting a used Nikon flash (SB-24/25) to use off camera and triggering it with a Wein Peanut (PN). Since I have not had my hands on either of these items, I am going by what I have seen and read on-line, and I am confused. The Peanut appears to have a male (jack) and is described as easily connected to a flash unit with a standard PC connector. A standard PC connector, as I understand it, is female to male. Why could not the Peanut be plugged directly into the flash unit?? B&H sells an adapter which they describe as enabling the Peanut to be directly connected to the Nikon flash units, and they further describe this adapter as "male to male". Doesn't compute!

Anyone with some familiarity with this equipment? Please enlighten me. Thanks

PS Shooting film with old Contax gear. No problems with preflash etc. or other fancy digital requirements.

Cheers/Mike

I saw someone selling sb-24s with one of these:

Not sure about the peanut, ask in the nikon forum perhaps.

Thanks Rick. Now I am really confused. Have a look here:

Are they really saying that this adapter ACCEPTS male at both ends? It really shouldn't be this obscure.

OK, more information; more confusion.* Nikon advises the use of their PC connector cord #SC-11 to connect* two SB flash units (for manual flash).* This cord is described at B&H

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...goryNavigation

as having MALE connectors at both ends. This suggests to me that the PC connector on the flash unit is FEMALE.

I'm near to having a sexual identity crisis. Someone please help.

I think I'd probably go w/ a shoe-mount optical slave. Most are more sensitive than the peanut, in my experience, plus most have a threaded socket in the bottom to allow the flash to be mounted to a light stand/holder of some type without the need of an additional cold shoe. The additional shoe is nice, though, if you can get one that acts almost like a mini ball head, w/ tilt, etc., options available. (I hope that made sense.)

The Weins work fine; I use one regularly with an SB800.

When I say "male", I mean the smaller (goes INTO the larger) connector of a PC cord. Both the SB800 and the Wein have the smaller of the 2 PC connectors. So the cord needs the LARGER of the 2 PC connectors on each end. My terminology may be reversed....

Also, FWIW: The adapter you cite looks like it will work, but sometimes a cord is better, since you have the option of pointing your slave unit directly at the triggering strobe in marginal situations. With your adapter, you have less flexibility (no pun...) in that regard.

Rick:
Exactly why I wish to go the PC cord route rather than a hot shoe slave or the adapter. It is now firmly established that the SB-24 flash has a female PC connector. It is also quite clear that the Peanut PN has a male pin. However from the images it doesn't look like this male pin will fit into a female terminal on a common PC sync cord. Perhaps this is just a wrong impression from trying to judge by the online images on the sellers sites. If you have used a Peanut plugged into the female end of a PC sync cord, I guess that settles the question. Thanks for your replies.

Cheers/Mike
