Default On Camera Flash Setup

Some friends have hired a professional wedding photographer to do the formal photos at their daughter's wedding, but have asked me to do some candid shots during the reception, etc. Most of the photography I do is horses, horse shows, outdoors, with 70-200 VR or other telephoto lens and no flash. I have a Nikon D300, Nikon SB600, and a Nikon 18-200 VR lens. I also have a Sigma 18-50 F2.8. I don't have a flash bracket, but might consider getting one if it would help. I don't want to buy something too expensive which I may never use again. I won't be using off camera flash or reflectors. Since I'm not much into flash photography, my question is, what would you recommend as far as camera/flash settings and setup?

Thanks for any help.

Now I see the "Family Wedding" thread from Rockbottom and feel like maybe I should not have asked my question. I would be pleased not to have this get into a discussion as to whether I should take my camera to the reception. I have no intention of getting in the Pros way or of even taking photos anywhere near him or her.

If the bride & groom have specifically asked you to do the 'around shots' then by all means go and do so. The pro may still resent you, though. Even if you're picture taking has been explained nicely. Even if by the bride & groom themselves...

Some people are like that.

About the actual photos: I get the impression you've already decided that flash as auxiliary light is necessary here. It's after sundown, I take it? Shame, 'cause you have the gear and experience for images without flash. But anyway, I'd use the Sigma 18-50 F2.8, set ISO 400, aperture priority ('Av') to F/4, and I'll let a real Nikonian chime in here for the settings for the SB600 on top.

Remember: the SB600's effective range is 15 to 21 feet, max!
