Default Starter setup

Hello All,

Well I'm trying to set up a little home studio to do portraits. I have a D80 and one SB-600. I'm planning on getting two more SB-600's, two umbrella's and one 24" box. Would this work as a basic light set-up?

Any advise would be great.

Best,

Roger

About to test out a flashpoint 320a to see how it works, but I personally use White lightnings.

I have to admit, that 320a really is impressive. The build quality is excellent, it worked pop after pop. It's got a great feel.

Things I didn't like was the umbrella holder (it doesn't have a latch) and that the mounting block for reflector dish/softbox and so on is proprietary so you are stuck to their system. Since it's doesn't have a lot of suport you will probably not see lots of third party mods like from chimera, and photoflex.

It works, and at it's price is a complete steal.

Another one bites the dust. I spent about two weeks reading nothing but strobist when I first found it. It is an excellent site.

Well I'm glad it working well for you, just a shame you can't mod it a little to use all the other goodies. Still it looks like a really nice unit.

Best,

Roger

Give Hensel lights a serious look. I've had these for over five years now with not one problem. B&H sells a very reasonably-priced kit that's enough for most folks. Hensels are voltage switchable, too, if that means anything to you--can be used in U.S. as well as countries with 240v electrical outlets.

For a small home studio, say a average living room, maybe 12'X10' is 100 w/s enough for a monolight?>

Oh, sorry, I wasn't clear, I know. But I was a real cheap deal for 100 w/s with stand and a softbox. I wanted to know if that would be enough. Thanks. Sorry for the confusion.

I love hensels, but their support and replacement is expensive. Amazing lights though!
