Default off camera flash issues.

I have a pentax k110d. I'm using a hot shoe to pc adaptor to fire an off camera strobes. The problem is the strobe will fire once, and won't fire again unless I disconnect then reconnect the pc cord. I use the same setup with my Canon rebel xt and have no problems. Any Idea why this is happening? The sync voltage of the strobes are 5.1volts.
