Default Elinchrom Soft Box or Octa Box?

Looking to do Headshots, Portraits, and full length Elinchrom has a 53" Octabox for like $329 Is this fi ne for what I am in need of? Im using twin 600RX units. I bought the kit which came with 2 umbrellas but think I may need a softbox...
Also...

Can I use a Softbox in conjunction with an umbrella?
Thanks

Bryan

Bryan, you can use a softbox or an umbrella, but not both at the same time on the same unit; but then again why would you want to? The kit softboxes, if they are like my Dlite 4 kit, are too small for full length; for that you need a 48 inch or so. A 5' octo would be great too, and Amvona has them for 1/4 the price on ebay. You may also need the Fomex adapter ring to fit it.

I have looked at some of those on Ebay but they ship from India the guy said..

The 53" Octabox would do well as good as a rectangular soft box correct?

hi bryan
i have the 135 rotalux from elinchrom and also the 1 metre sq and the rectangular 130 x 50 striplight they are all exceptional softboxes, my preference is the 135 octa although the strip light is a good one, the 135 rotalux is a great softbox if you cannot afford the octa!!! now that is a superb softbox if not the best in the world, (2 mtr)

The 53" Octa is wha tI think I need I can get for like $280 each at B&H here in the States or a bit more....Do you use this for pretty much everything? Portraits? Full lenght as well? I shot with the big 72" last week and it was nice but very costly.
Are you using the 600RX's?

i have the 600rx's just wait till you try then they are brilliant, depending on your size of studio, if i shoot in small space i will have to move lights back from subject to get a reading of f8, as they can be on minimum power and still too powerful so they have to be pulled back.
the 72 is the baby of softboxes, just massive money though, the light is fantastic and soft, it can also be used for pure white background and also as a fashion ringflash effect, i want one!!!!

I'd go with this one before I spend the $300, personally. You'll need a ring to use with it; second link

My current setup includes 3 StyleRx 600

BIG octa 72"
octa deep throat 39"
strip 13x68"

I do love the big octa. Pricy but worth every inch. Both as main light
as well as 'white background'

For 1/2 i use as well more often the deep throat, very nice directional lighting

The large strip light can be used as single light source as well (VERY close to the model)
