Would love to see your home or business studio, so lets start a picture thread of your studios. I will put some pictures up next week when I get some models coming in for a shoot.

Well, here's mine. Just prior to a shoot. It may look like a big one but its a shared hall with a bunch of fashion designers. On my normal days im thrown into a small office with all the gear and no space and they only let me out when its time to shoot
![]() ![]() If anyone care to comment on the somewhat odd light setup (and if you spot it this was just before i got my light-modifiers. So i had to get creative real fast :P |

Artur, here is my home studio in a spare room in the basement. I have three hot lights, the two you see with umbrellas and then one I use on the floor beside and behind the model to light the background was added after this photo. I have just recently set up this little studio and am trying to learn how to get some nice shots there. My good and patient wife is very cooperative.
I am eager to see your studio. Cheers, Bill P. |

This is mainly to Bill P. and Arthur, but don't you have any concerns due to the low ceilings in most homes. What would you recommend as an ideal ceiling height for a home studio? It is for this reason that I am contemplating the garage space as a studio space moreso than any of my basement space. The ceiling in the garage is at least 12-16 ft high. Still low enough to bounce any flash if i feel the need yet open enough not to confine any of the lighting. I dont have any pictures as of yet. Once I do, I will send them.

The ideal ceiling height for most studios is 12' or more. The ceiling height of your garage is ideal as long as you have the width and depth that you need to use a slight telephoto for any people photos.

Brooks,
I suppose it is, I mean, it's a two-car garage and fairly empty save for the run-o-the-mill "garage" mess that will be gleaned and moved into the basement storage space. I think it should be sufficient for shooting singles and relatively small families, 5-8 members. Anything larger than that and I suppose I'll need to look for an outdoor shooting location...something scenic. NJ |

I would be more concerned with width and length than ceiling height. Of those, I would look to longer.
The only Issue I would see with ceiling height would be to get a light aiming down on the subject. Even with a 9 to 10 foot ceiling you can "finess" it with a shallow box if you don't want to bounce. One note I would look into, however, is the paint. Aim for something neutral. White is the common choice b/c it will not alter the color temperature with the bounce you will get in smaller spaces. |

Though white will act as a reflector so make sure you have some black cloth to cover it up with IF the space is very enclosed.

NJ, I just saw your question about ceiling height in my studio. My room is 12' wide and 20' long with a 9 1/2' ceiling. That room was a "bonus room" in our new home and we had considered a home theater. However, once we moved in I decided to use is as a place for a background and some lights. I am really enjoying using that room as my home studio.
I am eager to see your studio once you get it set up. Cheers, Bill P. |
