No, they're halogens, not CFL's. Save your money and build your own. There are a lot of great ideas in the net for making softboxes. Use clamp lights with CFL's or the work lights. Not as portable as this, but would be worth so much more in usefulness.

I built a table out of pvc tubing, use background paper for a sweep and three desklamps (the kind that clamp to a desktop) with CFL's. Using this for most of my company's products and they turn out quite well.

A friend of mine got the Walmart set up and the lights melted! It seemed to work but be careful! Now she still uses the box but has work lights outside it instead! Just food for thought!!
