Default biggest softbox you've used

hi! sorry for the noob question but i just want to hear from you what's the biggest softbox/octabox you've used in a 320w/s flash head. i'm new to lighting and i have 1 320w/s flash head and a lightmeter (sekonik 308s). thanks in advance!

48" x 72". The bigger the better for softly lit, full length people shots. You can always use a big silk panel to get the same effect, it's just not as efficient and you may have to mask the spill.

This is the sort of light it throws. It's the only light source in this shot (camera left), there is a large slik reflector to camera right, both are just barely outside the frame.



A box that big is tricky to mount and adjust though, You need a big, heavy duty stands and some sandbags; if you put it on a boom you need an extra ballast weight. It's worth it for those soft shadows though.

thanks for the idea you gave me. those silk panels i can get it for cheap in fabric stores down here and i think i can make a stand out of pvc pipes. thanks a lot

Exactly! 1" PVC makes a great frame. At the fabric store you can go with 'China Silk' or white nylon curtain liner for about half the cost. I have three of them, one is reinforced with fiberglass rods into a concave shape.

You can sew some 1-1/2" wide elastic across each corner to make mounting it on the frame quick and easy.

I have pictures of them but about half my image data is unavailable right now.

no clengster there were 20 2400watt second heads in that box w/ten packs =48,000watt seconds.
