Ok cool, thanks for all the information provided. I have decided to just buy one. Mini vagabond it is.

You'll love the mini. I had the II and sold it and bought a used mini (the deal ended up costing me about $10) I have a lighting case (pelican 1600) that consists of 2 white lighning 1200 and 1 600 triggers light meter and various other crap...and I can still fit a pair of Vagabond minis in there on top of each other (foam padding I could probably fit more with dividers) I can't imagine the weight if I got a case large enough for those lights and 2 of the Vagabond II.
The most important thing is make sure you USE IT just like any other gear it's nice to have but if you don't use it it's worthless!

White lightnings require Pure sine wave inverters , Check to see if Alien bees are the same. The Paul C buff ring light did not require a pure sine wave.
I made my own with a optima battery, 900W pure sine wave inverter and used a small wheeled pelican case. Purchased a small 12v charger all in one case.
Never ran out of juice using it for location portraits and commercial shoots.

I believe a pure sine wave inverter is the safe route. In those instances where it is not required it will not damage anything. Should you ever plug in a device that requires pure sine wave into a system that does not use it, damage could and probably would occur.

I discovered this by hooking up my wl 1800's to a modified sine wave, they did not work, no damage occurred. the fire took care of that a year later.
