Default DIY background stands

Has anyone made a background stand? I have seen many posts and threads in regards to DIY backdrops. What about constructing a background stand?

I see no advantage to a do-it-yourself background stand. You just use two standard light stands--you can pick them up inexpensively used if you prefer--combined with a Bogen crossbar, such as this:

That's it! If you want to avoid the expense of the crossbar, I suppose you could fashion something, but you'd likely lose the versatility of the expandability of the Bogen bar.

I tried the bogen/lightstand thing and it worked OK for me, but I have limited space and didn't like the legs spread out on the stands. I opted for a pipe and drape rig from Innovative systems (inovatiive-sys.com). This is a standard item in the Audio/Visual rental world. It has steel plates on the bottom, aliminum uprights and crossbar. All adjustable and a ton of sizes available. Pretty inexpensive, too. My wife sewed pockets into the bg's that didn't have them. I have 3 ups and 2 crosses so when I do class pix, I hang 2 big idendtical bg's and cover a big class.
