Default Salt Lake City and Park City Photo Ops?

I will be on a business trip next week and have never been to Utah. I'll have a "limited" amount of time for fun, but would like to be directed to some 'must see' photo opportunities in the Salt Lake and Park City Utah areas.

My travel kit will consist of the 20D with a Canon 10-22 and Tamron 28-75.

Thanks in advance!

Been to southern Utah but not up around SLC. If you're going south, PM me.

I would also recommend the new LDS Conference Center just down the road and the Joseph Smith Historical Building as well for good photo ops. You can also take an elevator to the top of the LDS Church headquarters building and there is a lookout or some kind of observation point up there with sweeping views of the Wasatch Mountain Range and the entire Salt Lake Valley.

That should keep you busy - its really a gorgeous city. If you have more time - head up to Park City just through the canyon behind SLC and shoot some of the Winter Olympic Venues from 2002.

Jared
Thanks Jared.... My training will be in Park City, but will be flying into SLC. The long-range forecast is calling for rain. I hope that
their weatherman are as accurate as the Michigan forecasters (which is not very accurate at all).

Pending the weather, I may head out to Logan Canyon if I have time. I've heard that
it's about 2.5 hours north of SLC and worth the drive. I'd love to head on South
to Zion and Moab etc. , but Utah appears to be bigger than what I have time for.

Kevin,

I have been to both cities - Park City to snowboard and Salt Lake City to photography. I have some photos I took around Temple Square. Take a look at:

I hope that helps.

Cheers,

Sam

Yes, I agree very nice. I'm sitting in Park City, UT as I type this. The weather was great today, low seventies and sunny. I took the occassion to drive up to Logan and then took the scenic drive to Bear Lake. Awesome!
Quite breathtaking, even at this time of year.

It appears that I'm a bit early, as most of the signs were covered and number of roads weren't plowed as of yet. A number of the turn-offs were closed as well. The park ranger told me that next month would've been better. Oh well.

I took a few snaps, but nothing to write home about, with limited time it was more "run and gun" than anything else. However, I did sneak into Idaho (Fish Haven) and took a shot of an old structure. I also waived to you Jared, and I think you waived back.

Took a different route on the way back that took me through a corner of Wyoming. Driving through the "high desert" was quite interesting. Very arid, very brown but also quite worth it.

Well, my training begins tomorrow. So, no more fun until Friday afternoon.
Thanks for your help guys!

I very much look forward to seeing your pictures of this area Kevin - post some as soon as you can.

Jared
Yeah, I saw the Raspberry banner that was hanging prominantly in Garden City. I reviewed my shots and a few were o.k., even with the 10-22, I wasn't able to capture the grandeur of the area. Nonetheless, I'll post a few when I get back this coming Sunday.

I'll essentially have one additional to play "tourist"... It's either Temple Square or I'll head out to the Flaming Gorge area. I'm leaning towards sticking around SLC due to the fact that I have an early flight Sunday morning. So, to answer your question; My first day I headed up and around the Bear Lake, Logan area and then came back around through Evanston WY and wound up in Park City, UT where the training is.

So, other than the airport. I've not toured SLC as of yet. Spoke to some LDS folks who were also in the training and they said that I could easily spend a day taking shots at Temple Square.
