Harsh sunlight hindered these somewhat but what about the composition?
The line in the foreground of this shot is a road not a mark or scratch on the shot. ![]() Nikon D70 1/50s f/16.0 at 70.0mm iso200 - Lee 0.6 ND Grad B&W? Whilst I like the tones of the 2nd one the the 1st is my fave , it has a typically English country side feel
Wonderfully shot and composed. |

senses working overtime

I think you've captured the essence of this countryside very nicely. The folding hills help to give it a structure. Light seems a little hazy, but goes give the image a softness that adds to the look. I suspect that an early morning outing is in order - I can see those hills looking fabulous in the early morning glow.

That's a tough one. You have definitively well captured the quiet English countryside and it's a nice shot. But I feel that the composition in the first shot lacks strength. I'm not entirely sure why, but possible causes may be:
- Lack of a point of focus for the eyes. When you look at the photo your eyes kind of wonder around from hill to hill because there is no aim for them. It's completely imaginary, but for example if there had been a church somewhere toward the top third, it might have helped. - Maybe the angle is slightly wrong. If you had been able to line up the hills in a sort of corridor (by moving to the left?), it could have given a sense of direction to the shot. Of course I could be all wrong. I'd prefer the third one if there were clouds in the sky to make it more interesting. I feel that it has a better sense of direction than the first shot. Maybe crop most of the sky off and a bit of the grass and go for a more square format? For the B&W, my taste would be for a bit more contrast as shown below. The only problem of course is that it makes the lens flare stand out more. __________________
