I tried another star trails tonight. I used ISO 50 to avoid all noise, but I realise now that it makes the stars fainter, so next time I'll try ISO 200 or 400.

I like where you are going with this image. If you raise the ISO too much you will over expose the structure at the lower left, which is an important compositional element.

Thanks for sharing. I liked your other one as well. I've never tried this yet so i didn't realize you could have such an illuminated subject as well as showing the star trails. Very cool and I can't wait to try this

Cedric,
A good try. In the image I see beside the illuminated light house two other tower structures. These distract a bit. In the final image I would clone them out. |

Wonderful challenge you have for yourself, Cedric.
ISO 400 would be good, and of course, you can always take care of the noise. Thinking out loud: if you find difficulty with exposure on the subject while capturing the trails, there is always the option of a two image blend. Well done, looking forward to the next one. |

Nice shot. I used to enjoy taking star trail photos a lot with one of my old film cameras. I tried recently with my DSLR, but even with the in-camera noise reduction on, and the ISO set as low as it would go, the noise was too great with anything over a minute or so. Lots of bright red and blue pixels everywhere. I thought the dark-frame noise-reduction in the camera was supposed to take care of that, but it evidently doesn't work too well in my camera.
