Smile Doi Inthanon

At 2,565 meters above sea level, Doi Inthanon is the tallest mountain in Thailand and has cold weather and high humidity throughout the year. The entire mountain and the forests surrounding it, with an approximate area of 482 square kilometers, are designated a National Park. We spent a fabulous day there a couple of weeks ago.

On the main road to the summit of Doi Inthanon stand the two Napamaytanidol Chedi. These temples were built to honor the 60th birthday of the King and Queen in 1987 and 1992 respectively.

This is the Queen's Chedi:

Monks ascending the steps to the Queen's Chedi (the one at the bottom right has a mobile phone in one hand and a video camera in the other - lol):

To give you a sense of scale, this is how big those little brown bits at the top are (and that's my family):

The King's Chedi is being renovated. This is the view of it from the Queens side:

Looking back to the Queen's side from the King's Chedi:

Athena, how wonderful to live in a place with such interesting scenery. No. 2 is my favorite.

Nice series Athena! I actually like the garden / landscapes in the first and last. And your family, naturally. I might have given the boys a couple seconds to get over next to dad though.

Nice story, thanks for posting.

All of these are good, but I like the last one the best.

Monks with cell phones.
Air conditioned tractors.
Cameras that focus for you.
What will they think of next?

Very nice series Athena. You really capture the essence of that area and make me want to go there myself. I think Laycey would have a ball. I loved that releaf in #3! If you ever get back there, how about a close up!!??
