Recently one of the members commented on a shot of mine in the HDR forum, suggesting that perhaps the colors in the sky of a sunset should possibly have been reflected in the color of the snow in the scene. As a result of a few existing conditions in that scene, the reflected light from the sun was very limited. However, his comments inspired me to try to come up with a shot that would demonstrate his suggestion in a satisfactory manner. This is a simple image of a sunrise that I believe demonstrates his thoughts.
The surface of the water is actually a layer of freezing mist, resulting from above freezing water temperatures vs. air temperatures of -18 degees celcius. Please enjoy. ![]() __________________

Gosh I like this for so many reasons..I think the way you included the sunburst on the edge in the lower 3rd was a clever decision. In addition to its compositional meaning, It gives a sense of realism to the viewer; the light and color on the snow is mesmerizing; and the shadows on the trees are just right with detail. Very nice work!

Well I agree with Padre on the Sun Burst position in the frame... Wow , that was such an important part to this composition, without it , the shot would be great , but somewhat meaningless, on your objective... Glad you incl. the Star of this great Light show... great display of how light works!

Gord,
What a wonderful demonstration and capture! It is amazing how ice crystals and mist affect light and colors both close to the ground and just at the horizon! Cold weather on a clear day has its own way of treating light! A photographer like yourself could do a whole expose on this subject, even include moon light! Wow, If I only had that talent and the resources here in AZ. I don't foresee any sub -Zero temps around here anytime soon! Something for someone out there to take on as a challenge?Dakota |

Dakota, Thankyou for your kind words.
Ken, Thankyou for taking the time to comment. Thanks Cedric, it took a little patience because I had to wait for the weather-man. I'm happy you liked this example. __________________
