I was recently on my hols around Europe. This pic is a panorama overlooking the city of Florence (taken from Piazzale Michelangelo). It is actually 4 pics stitched together. This is the first time I have attempted this kind of picture so I would welcome all of your comments and advice.
Thanks for looking! ![]() __________________

Hi Jackel... MIA?? I'm always here lol... now you I thought were possible MIA. ??
anyway , I think you did well, never tried this stitching thing , so can't be any help.. the shot however looks good.. I always have a hard time judging these type panos' because of size... but this one looks like you got your pop going on.. as I look at this , I almost get a Fish Eye Lens feel.. guess because of the curve of rail bottom right, and white area left in a somewhat curve... as you look out into the photo, the road also bows and curves , plus hillside left , and tree size right also forms a curve.. None of this is bad mind you , it actually pulls the eyes to center, which is pretty cool... maybe just me that feels this ![]() Everything is working in this shot, DOF is great, sky is blue/ and for the distance covered , no drastic changes of light.. very sharp.. Wish I could see it bigger... Photo has great eye appeal, and thats what its all about... WELL DONE ON THIS! |

Jackel,
I agree with Tom that it seems to have a fish eye feel to it, but think thats just the way it was looking at it Overall I think you did a good job! Every time I try and stitch pics together (only about 3 or 4 times) I have a hard time matching the sky colors. The sky exposure always seem to change I turn and it makes it tuff to fix in PS. For me anyways You got it looking really good in the sky and can barley tell where the stitch's are. Crop wise, I think I would crop out the railing as it seems to just distract my eye from the great view Just a few thoughts Nice work!! Jay |

Great spot for a pano and you did well - I cannot tell where you joined them - I have the same problem as Jay so can really appreciate yours. What stitching program did you use? Now I want to go back there and try a pano (AND some gelato)

Hey NEM - Thanks for looking. I know what you mean about the pano's and it is difficult trying to get the entire feel for the pic when you are scrolling left to right and back again, etc. You are spot on with the fish eye feel and I'm not sure what I should be doing to compensate this. I expect by virtue of the fact that I am panning the camera round to take each shot and then flattening the end result that there will be some distortion. Any pano experts out there to lend a hand and advise?
Worm 324 - I guess I got lucky with the sky. Took the pics in quick succession and made sure I didn't change a single setting. I struggled with the railings. Having already cropped a bit of foreground out because of the distracting distortion, I thought about cropping the railings out altogether or living with just a bit. These panoramas are so long and thin to start with, I didn't want to make it any more shallow. I agree with your comments though, the railings are a distraction. Thanks for your comments. Larry - Thanks for your kind comments. The view and the gelato are worth the trip alone, that's for sure. I used CS3 to do the stitching. Adobe's Photoshop Creative Studio has stitching built in as well as HDR. I have seen your PM and I'm off to respond to that now with some more details. Any other pano experts out there, I would like your C&C...Thanks. |

Nice job on the stitch. I think I can see where some of the stitching is in the buildings, but only on the large version, and you really have to be looking for it. I've only ever gotten one stitch shot to work very well so I am far from an expert on it, but I think you did well here.
This also looks like a great view, well worth the time and effort to make a pano like this. Great eye, and great job. |

Nighthunter / Deiussum - Hi and thank you for looking. You have helped encourage me to spend some more time working on these types of pics. I appreciate your comments and I'm going to work harder at hiding the stitching in my next one

Nice job on the stitching, everything about the shot looks good.
I happen to get the same feel that NEM has about the fish eye effect, and I think it's those railings that cause it. I'd leave them because like Tom said it forces your eye to the centre and that magnificent view. __________________
