Default Haystack Rock - Cannon Beach, Oregon

You can get an idea of the size of this rock.....there is a man walking a dog in the lower right corner of the photo.......

Our ship stopped at Astoria, OR and we went to Cannon Beach.......

What a shot! That is one big rock. I love the blues of the waters. I would have pulled a little to the right and given the guy/dog a tad more room to emphasize the enormous scale of the rock.

Thanks Dana!

Here's another version with a wider focal length .

I didn't have much choice of shooting location.... This was at 195mm, from a parking lot to the south.... I can't walk (disabled) on sand too far, so I had to settle on centering the rock from where we were.

I also have another shot from the north, from a dead-end street that I have to process.

I like the second shot much better, I know the log may be distracting to some folks, but I think it adds to the picture.
The cliffs to the right seem blue, were you using a filter or was this just a haze in the air.
Anyway, Great shot. .

Thanks!

I removed the blue/haze in the first one in PP, but didn't take the time on the 2nd..... Around the SF Bay Area and along the coast there is usually a haze to fog type air that comes in from the marine layer. Especially anything viewed at distance tends to have a bluish cast.

Very Nice Ken Great color and detail. I agree that # 2 is a better composition and my pick of the two

I really like #2. Even just a touch of room behind the guy gives it a good effect.

Great shots.

Hope you're having a great trip too. Let's see more shots.

Ken,
Nice views of Haystack. I like the texture you have captured in the rock. The only time I visited, it was a gray rainy day, and the best I could do was basically a silhouette. Will look forward to seeing your shoot from the north.
Cheers,
Colby

Thanks Dana! I should have processed a few views and posted them at the same time....I'm not only terminally lazy, I didn't even think about the others.....my favorite is from the north - one I have not yet processed, but I will tonight.
