Default How should I process this? Water and brick

this is the plain (raw) image with no post work - nada... Usually I have an idea how I would like to process a shot, but this one is really throwing me through a loop. Ideas / help please? I really like the shot, a lot, and it's a lot warmer on my screen than in the upload, darnit!

The rocks look too yellowish to me, but this does look like a sunset/rise scene so maybe thats how they are supposed to look. It is composed nicely.

What feeling do you hope to evoke with this photo? Is it morning or sunset? Do you want it to be realistic or abstract? What is it about the photo that you like and want to enhance or draw attention to? These are questions I ask myself before I do any PP.

Here are the steps I took, but I don't know how this scene looked to you, so these are just my "guesses" and tastes. I use CS5.
  • Shadows & Highlights
  • Curves
  • Contrast (used NiK Pro Contrast plugin)
  • Noise reduction on water only (Noise Ninja)
  • Selective Sharpening of rocks (NiK Sharpener Pro)

This looks great, except the water looks a little noisy to me? And what is this noise ninja I keep hearing about? I have CS3

It was late afternoon, so I was thinking something along these lines (above) but a little softer, not blurry soft, just to evoke a feeling of peace and tranquility.. or some such dribble Thanks all for the suggestions (and for the edit!)

What was the ISO for the shot? The water after the noise reduction does not have much noise. But it was a very dark element, so if you ISO was high there would be more noise there.

If there is too much noise there is not much that can be done without out removing too many features.

Hi Ken - I took some rather warmer pics and brighter ones of it too - but for some reason I liked the dark, sultry look of this exposure...

ISO was 800 - seems I can't get anything but that evil ISO # out of my zoom lens at the highest Fstop From now on it's tripod and show slutter speeds for me ! Thanks though, for the info and for the edit!

Graphicography - When in doubt, try black and white.

I'm no fan of Black and White, but in this situation, I thing the advice is good. The water has a little too much green reflections and is dark. Here's my try at doing it in B&W and highlighting the bricks a little.

xxx.jpg

All I did was playing aroung with the colour sliders before converting it to B&W.

thanks to all who responded! I love seeing what other people "visualize" it was a nice lesson in sitting back and just watching
