For you Nikon owners-the 135mm f2.0 DC (defocus control)
If you ever find yourself wanting a great portrait lens try this one and there is also a 105mm. But they ain't cheap. Still working on the defocus control, but supposedly you can dial in different bokeh by altering the circles of confusion (yeah, I don't fully know what that means either). Very sharp. Love it. Example below: (He's getting the teenage expression down already.) __________________

Nice looking stuff Fran. Looks like it would be right up the alley for portrait photographers. Now I'm out on a learning mission. Please post more about this lens and feel free to include more examples.

Thanks Kat I think the defocus thing is gonna require some trial and error. You can choose to blur the foreground or the background. Quote:
I believe it was f2.0, and he was a few feet, maybe 4 or 5 from it on a small narrow path. Quote:
Thanks SIs. Quote:
I got it at B&H and the guy there said they sell just a few of these a year compared to hundreds of the 85(1.4) or any others,(it's an older lens and fell into some disfavor with the dx format) but agreed that he thought for portraiture on a full frame camera, it's hard to beat. And fast. And sharp. I've read where the AF was felt to be slow, but it doesn't seem that way to me, but I haven't used it for action shots, just portraiture etc. Defocus Image Control - Nikon AF DC-Nikkor 135mm f/2D and a you tube: With buttah! Check it out above. I'm surprised it isn't more popular. |
