Talking Kids and Family Challenge #9 - OCF/OCL - ENDED

Lory and Jim (EOS_JD), the winners of our previous challenge, have jointly decided on the theme of the Kids and Family Challenge #9: OCF - Off-Camera Flash.

In consideration of members whom may not have access to remote flash, we're also including OCL - Off-Camera Light. In other words, your light source must be artificial and coming from flash, studio kit, reading lamp, flashlight, etc.

This challenge will run through May 5. Members may submit unlimited entries that fit the chosen theme. This can be images made by you at any time though we encourage you to get out and shoot during the challenge period where possible.
Please name your entry and feel free to comment so that we can learn from each other and improve our photography skills. At the end of the challenge, karma will be awarded for participation, ingenuity and exemplary work.

Sounds like a fun challenge so let's have at it, everyone!

To start this thread off I’ll post an image I made right before Christmas of my grandson.

For the lighting I used old Minolta hot shoe flashes. The main was to camera left shot through a white umbrella. The fill was reflected off a silver umbrella directly behind the camera. I used two more to light the background.

I should get a chance to make some new images this weekend.

Comments and/or critiques are always welcome.

Thanks

Toby

OK I'll post mine. Taken late in the afternoon last week at a country home close to my home. My Sister and her two girls

580EX camera right shot through a lastolite ezybox and triggered with a canon ST-E2. Camera 40D 1/100th f4 ISO100

Looks lighter here than it was!

Ok I will rehash a photo from last year just to help start this off.
It was taken in my make shift studio with a black background and a single strobe/softbox camera right . I feathered the light to just skip across the front as to not hit me or the bg much if at all. I also wore a black shirt so I would blend in to the BG. I also did some burning on my left arm to even it out with the other side.

I will force myself to get out with the old vivtars and get something new outside this weekend.

Toby - On my monitor this seems underexposed. I'm thinking the brightness and contrast can be bumped up a bit, assuming that background is supposed to be white.

Jim - This looks nicely exposed. Base on the ambient light on the background, how much light did your flash contribute do you recall? Three very lovely ladies, btw.

Shawn - This shot was amazing to see then as it is now. I'm glad you're sharing it here as well as the background info. It's cool to see what a single light can do in an effective setup. Looking forward to seeing what you'll come up with this weekend!

On ETTL Tom so no idea how much light was produced. I'm just starting out with OCF really. From some training ive been doing onliine, I'm thinking manual might be a better way forward. They are very willing models so I'm hoping to do more. Sister is not so keen but my neices are

thanks~

Jim - I'm also thinking of getting the 24" Lastolite ezybox to use with my 580EX. Are you pleased with it so far?
