Hi everyone.
I am new to photography, the E-300 is my very first camera. I choose it because I needed a flexible system, something that could support me through the learning curve by allowing me to rely on the camera’s ability for taking shots while I explore the more advancedl modes. So far I have just been using the pre-set modes. When I first tried reading the manual, it literally made me fall asleep: a sure indicator I understood very little. I could not grasp any but the simplest concepts as they were presented in the manaul - but then the people who wrote it had to assume level of prior knowledge in their reader. I obviuosly wasn't in that audience.. To any other novice, I can fully recommend the book Complete Digital Photography by Ben Long. I read it in two days, just finished it yesterday! Now, I am delighted to find that not only do I remain awake but I actually understand my camera’s manual. I also truly appreciate what a good camera the E-300 is. The relationships between ISO, aperture & shutter speed make more sense to me and just knowing how to use the histogram to check over/under exposure & dynamic range is a good feeling. I think I have enough theory to go on now, so I guess the next step is to practise! __________________

Welcome. Between places like Ashland (there's a Thai restaurant on a little creek that I really like) and jet boats on the rogue river, I think southern oregon is a lot of fun. My family used to spend a lot of time on the Elk River back when I was a kid and I've stayed in Gold Beach several times.

Thanks to both of you for the welcome... I was hoping there was room for the newbies, the level of professionalism in this forum is inspiring.

Hi! I'm new too, and I grew up in Southern Oregon! My parents still live there...about 12 miles east of Bandon. I went to school in Myrtle Point, and my dad is a retired high school teacher who taught in Coquille for nearly 30 years (semi-retired actually...he still teaches calculus and geometry there in the mornings). Small communities, yet the area was a great place to grow up, and I like to visit. We were just down this past weekend.
Glad to see some fellow Oregonians on this site! ![]() edawn __________________
