so I thought I would join this friendly self-help group.
i.e. don't treat the addiction just get better results from it ![]() I live in London and like to do handheld indoor people photography and trying to get the best from landscapes with challenging exposure situations with limited post-processing. I have a 40D and 17-55 2.8 IS which will probably always be able to take better pictures then me .... I used to do film SLR and have only recently started with DSLRs, which are a load of fun. cheers! __________________

Welcome and congratulations for taking the "first step" - admission
Not sure joining this group of addicts will help but it will make it a lot more fun and even educational - some great people on this site. |

Hi colonel!
Welcome to the Camel! May you thrive with your addiction to great results! Quote:
NO WAY ![]() Cameras and lenses do NOT take pictures, Human Being Photographers do! ![]() ...with your body/lens combination you are very ready to do your things, the 17-55IS is nice wide for landscapes (do not push above F13 on a 40D otherwise diffraction will work against you) and it is questionable the most handholdable zoomlens with both F2.8 AND IS for (candid) handheld portraiture If you do not already have one, get the dedicated (EW83J) hood for the 17-55IS, and your flare-concerns are minimized. Rumour has it this lens 'sucks dust' between the front and next lens elements. I have used mine for over 1.5 year now, and quite extensive, and *I* don't see any dust... I do use a Canon PROTECT 77mm filter 'on top' though, so that might make a positive contribution here...(...and yes, I am the 'Canon-Guru' (Canon Forum Moderator) of this site, LOL )Again, a warm welcome, & together we'll feed that monkey on your back !Kindest regards, Max@Home |

interesting to understand the limits of the lens. i find its most sharp between f4 and f8, but I should play about more at f11 and f13. I use a polariser outdoors mostly so this probably has been protecting the lens. the gallery thing here and the possibility to attach jpgs to forum posts is great. better then some other forums i have been using. unfortunately you guys will be seeing loads of photos from me at some point ![]() |
