I have been viewing the amazing photos on this site for some months but this is my first post. I am a beginner photographer attempting to improve.
I started with a point and shoot digital camera. My basic strategy was summarized by Goofup in one of his posts. I added the step in red. Don't let the people here fool you. Photography is easy: Take off the lens cap. Turn it on. Set it on Auto. Point it at something. Press the shutter. Upload the photo to my computer and fix what I can with Photoshop. See nuthin to it! You don't need to know about all that other confusing stuff- let that there fancy new camera do all the work! Goofup Nov 2007 I have progressed past that stage. I have a Rebel XT and have moved past the set it to the P mode and use exposure compensation as needed. I now shoot mostly in the M mode. This new mode of operation is an improvement on Goofup's suggestions. Take off the lens cap. Turn it on. Set it on Manual. Point it at something. Press the shutter. Look at the histogram and start playing with the aperture and shutter speed until I center the histogram. On a good day, I will remember to think of the ISO setting and/or white/balance. Upload the photo to my computer and fix what I can with Photoshop. I will post a few of my photos. If anyone has the time to post suggestions for improvement, I would appreciate it. Welcome Ron. First things first. Since there are different "skins" on the forum, if you change the font colors you never know who will be able to see it. Or not.
I know. It makes no sense to have all those options and then not be able to use them but it will be more convenient for people to read your posts if you don't. Looking forward to some images. |

No problem Ron. Just switch your background color to "Dark" for a minute and you'll see what I mean. In the bottom left corner there is a drop-down menu.
