Default Another from England

Just arrived here after a suggestion by Asim - an old (young!) friend from another forum. Been taking photographs for over 50 years - hoping to improve soon! Can ususally take a reasonably well exposed shot, and competent at editing with PS. Just need to have some ideas about what to point the damn camera at!

Use a 10D - would love to upgrade to a 20D or 5D but although I can afford to and I have a wife who actually suggests I should (!) I can't justify it to myself as the 10D is better than I am.

Still, one day my liking for just owning the kit will probably persuade me to do it.

Meanwhile - at least thinking about it and planning what I would like is quite enjoyable Actually the 5D complicates the thought process as one reason for getting the 20D would be to access the EF-S lenses - but if I then got a 5D later......

Welcome Paul!

The 10D is a mighty competent camera. No need to rush your decision.
Looking forward to your participation on this forum.

So what...you started photography when you were 5? You certainly don't look that old. Welcome to the group.

Nah, not sad, just means you are aging very well. When I was maybe 12 I was sitting at a church dinner with my sister, my mother and my aunt (5 years younger than my mom). Some older lady (in her 70's probably?) came up and told my aunt what pretty daughters she had. My aunt said no, they were her sister's and the lady asked where her sister was. She was shocked when my aunt told her it was my mom because she thought my mom was one of the daughters too! I'm not aging as well as my mother, but I do look younger usually than my sister who is a year and a half younger than me. I still remember quite fondly being carded for an R rated movie when I was 23.

Yeah, I thought I was being really rather generous with the years when I asked if, since he's been shooting 50 years, he started at 5. Really though, my dad is 60 and looks a heck of a lot older than he does I think. He actually looks more like a guy I know that I believe just turned 50 so maybe Paul started photography before birth? Poor OB does the sonogram and gets blinded by the flash bouncing back at him...it really is hard not to underexpose stuff in there you know (and yes, I know that a sonogram wouldn't pick up on a flash of a camera...please, suspend reality with me for a moment, it is good to let your brain cells run free every once in a while).

Wrong answer - I think you meant to say that I need the 5D and that it will make me a better photographer overnight!

Welcome Paul - looking forward to your contributions.

You seem to have cracked it - a wife who insists on you upgrading to something much more expensive. How did you do it

Usual way - application form, aptitude tests, interview, 28 day money back trial period......

No - actually I married the best looking girl I fell in love with and fancied the pants off (and still do!) and the rest was a bonus!
