Wow! I got this e-mail this morning, and I'm kinda excited. The ONLY downside is that they are not giving the book to the finalists Any one else belong to this site? BTW: I am not paying them for the book!! ~ Well here is the e-mail:

It's a very good photo...I'm sorry to say these sites are not desirable. Anytime you have to pay either to enter a photo or to receive an award etc. are ones to stay away from. Winners do not pay but are rewarded. There are some great reputable sites out there. So look for the ones that actually reward you and not try to take something from you.

Gee, I don't know. I might hire me a Lawyer and sue them for my image back...and then avoid them like the plague. And talk bad about them too.

I'm not positive, but I don't think that we ever charged anybody to use their image as our POTW (upper right corner), and if by chance we ever did do a "Best Of PhotoCamel" book (my pet project by the way), I doubt we'd charge folks for using their submissions. Might give them a discount though?

That place that sent you the email is a very nice example of SPAM (and the kind in the can at the grocery is WAY better)

What was the name of that site that was so bad for that? Was it just Picture.com You could enter the "contest" and then they would publish a book with all the worthwhile images, but you would have to pay for the book, which could NEVER be found anywhere but on that site. Some research dug up that a lot of people fell for that, ordered the book, never got it, nor their money back, and couldn't get in touch with anyone. I partially fell for that, put my photo up and received a letter stating that my photo was going to be published. I was excited but decided to do some research, which was how I found out that it was all a scam (thank god for the internet, eh?). I didn't respond to the letter, but continued to get emails for, I'd say at least two years afterward, saying I won this award and that award, send money to reserve my seat at the awards ceremony and PAY for my winning plaque! I'm glad I didn't send any money for the book! But don't feel bad, lots of us fall for those scams. You live, you learn!

Photolaurets and picture.com is the same company. I submitted a picture to picture.com several years back and about 6 times a year I receive emails from what used to be picture.com and now they come from photolaurets and each time it is about that same shot that I entered way back when.

So just a word of advise would be not to send them your money. The company is a big scam.

lol - this seems to be the same scam that poets fall into - "submit your poem", "your poem was selected" and then "buy the book".
Same scam, different format.
