Default Question about "Actions" in PS CS4

I'm trying to learn actions in CS4. Will someone please tell me what it means when the "triangle" is opened, and the action skips a few, and reads "color balance" is not available. This is only a sample, many others say "not available". Did I do something wrong?

Are there already multiple layers open? Try flattning the image or merging the layers before performing the action. Sounds like a task is being called for that cannot be done on a particular layer.

The best way to figure out what needs to be done is to step through the action one step at a time, some actions even have instructions written into them.

some actions and filters require that your image is in 8 bit mode and not in 16 bit.

Thanks for replying. You hit it right on the head. I use 16 bit for most of my photos.

Thanks for the advice I'm now going step by step, but my images were 16 bit. I think that was the problem.
