I just (last month) updated from Elements 6 to 8.0. So far I don't like it as well as 6.0. They keep pushing their on-line stuff. So far I have not found a way to shut off their opening signon. I updated because somewhere I got the impression that you could work with 16 bit files. No so. You can work with them in ACR but as soon as you open them in Elements you have to change them to 8 bit to work on them. Their Improvements are mostly if you share on-line or do scrapbooking and those kinds of things. Only a couple of new tools. Of course their help function is a poor as always.
I've used Elements 3,4,5,6, and now 8.0 and for me Elements 5.0 was the best. Easiest to use and fastest. I don't like the gray on gray interface (difficult to see). I've tried to change it to white but sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I don't find the new organizer as easy to use as the older one (5.0). I updated to 6.0 when I got my Wacom tablet (it came bundled with it). It seems as if they are trying to force me to go to CS4 and I might just have to. I don't know where their taking Elements but so far I don't like it. As for myself since I use it for editing only the update was not worth it. I would suggest downloading the trial version and compare against what you are using now. Depending on what you are using it for it might work out for you. Dwight |

DPP is very good for like adjusting the White balance of the camera, it also reads what picture style you have taken, something that photoshop cannot do for some reasons
