Default Adobe Releases Lightroom 3 Public Beta

Link.

The best improvement (for me) is the import/export function.

Imported my images ... and crashed 1/2 way ... well its beta
Some nicer functions but not really something one NEEDS to have.

Bridge and ACR are designed to view a folder of Adobe Creative Suite files and LR is designed to manage a library of photographs.

The biggest thing to me is the new rendering engine that Adobe is using.

In Develop module, go to the Settings menu and take a look at Process Version. You can switch between the new rendering engine and the original.

It's subtle, but you can see the difference. Much better detail.

Both demosaicing and noise reduction have new algorithms (which will also be available in an ACR upgrade once the release is an alpha version).

Some of the other improvements such as watermarking, HD video output, the ability to view images on drives without importing (like Bridge) and the new import version are nice to have, but not such a strong case for an upgrade.

There are some hints from the developers that other major feature requests (soft proofing and lens correction) will appear in the alpha release.

Those last two, together with the better rendering should make it a fairly easy decision to upgrade.

Regards,

Peter

I've been using it for a while. Has some nice improvements over version 2, like better IQ for the 50D. But, some features don't work, such as the luminance noise reduction is greyed out.

Not sure what you mean. Lightroom doesn't make any changes to your original RAW files. Perhaps you told LR to "move" them to a new location instead of merely "adding" them to the catalog?

In the library module, you can right-click on the image and select "show in explorer" from the sub menu and it will take you to the image.
