Default resizing images

I know its easy right.

Sure is and i know how to do it, but i want to batch resize from lrg jpegs to smaller jpegs at 72 dpi and size 6x4 inches.

Now i have written the action but the problem lies in the different orinetation of images. If i use a portrait orientation for the width and height then the landscape orientation images come out at 6x9.

So far the only way i can work out how to solve the problem is to rotate the landscape images to portrait orientation ( i generally have far more portrait than landscape ) and then i need to rotate them back before i present to the client.

Does anyone know a way to resolve the problem so that CS3 applies a size to the longest side. I have tried percentage and also resizing from bridge and also the web photo gallery but it doesn't allow me to set the size.

Not sure about the solution, but I would put the horizontal shots in a separate folder and run a different action instead of rotating twice.

Try a program called Batch Photo, it resizes, adds watermarks, touchups and alt more

I'm assuming that all of the images are already proportioned correctly.

6 inches X 72dpi is 432 pixels.

In your action, go to the File menu / Automate / Fit Image.

Put 432 into both the horizontal and vertical boxes. It will resize the image so it fits into a 432x432 box.

Done.

Thank you Alan, they are all proportioned in a 2 to 3 ratio as they come from a Canon5D.

I will give that a shot.

In Photoshop and Bridge, there's a tool called Image Processor that will resize your images to fit within a fixed box, so you don't have to worry about landscape or portrait.

I initially wrote two seperate actions, one for vertical and one for horizontal, but I now use the bridge method mentioned. Which is under tools>photoshop>image processor
