Wrong term. It's not over-exposed but there are hot spots around the eyes/nose area, including the cheeks.

Yet, you described it as "flat." Your descriptions are confusing and contradictory. I can see if you don't like the processing, but I don't understand what you point is? Keep in mind, this is the FIRST ATTEMPT.

Not sure what's contradictory in my statement. Hot spots and flat are not mutually exclusive, in my non-expert opinion.
I'll post an example from my own photos in a minute. |

Imo, my niece's cheeks and forehead have hot spots here. It was minimized by the deep tan she/they had from 3 weeks under the sun. But there are semi- hot spots there. Oh, and this photo is definitely flat.

...and no, I'm in no way using this technique to cover anything up. If I thought the image was bad I wouldn't have used it. As John said, I'm simply looking to refine a technique that I really think could be used subtly to enhance a photograph. I personally don't care for images that are "heavily processed". I think the first image I posted falls into that category and I think the photographer whose images that you posted a link to skirt into that realm as well. Honestly though, it's subjective. I can see how some people may really like it and I can also see where it could fulfill a client's needs for a particular "look" that they are requesting. All I'm saying is that I believe that this can be used to give the photo a slightly different feel without making it look unnatural...and I really don't think I'm there yet, but I think the results could be really stunning. I'll try it with a different image... ![]() |

That's cool, DS. Unlike some people (read: John, wink wink) we are not trying to prove anybody right or wrong. It's opinions we are trying to exchange here
![]() And hot damn, I'm always wrong according to the trio (who shall remain nameless ) |

Yeah...as John can tell you, we don't always come down on the same side of the argument either. But that's a good thing.Anyway... Let me ask you...the hot spots aside, are there aspects of what I have done to the image that you like? and do you think there some things you think I can do to push it in a better direction? I appreciate the honesty...I would much rather have someone tell me that they don't like something I've than that they love it. Ego boost aside...I don't learn anything when someone likes my photos. Thanks! |
