Default square histogram distribution and digital art manipulation

Hi All

I was wondering how digital artists achieve a uniform histogram distribution which looks almost flat, or triangular. It must be artificially performed with a plugin. I find many pictures that have been converted into the painted look have very odd histograms. Anyone know how this is done?

Also is there a good site tutorial for converting photos into paintings? Really curious how this is done.

Thanks

Bukboy,

Have you looked at Corel Painter Essentials 4( Painting/Natural Media - Corel Painter Essentials 4 - Corel Corporation ) or similar?

Oh, the histo gets "squared off" because you are reducing the quantity of tones used and tonal transitions. Its merely a by product of converting a photorealistic image into a a digital painting, by reducing the pallet and the contrast.
