Default Smoothing out Skin tone

Hi all,

I have an cropped otherwise unedited image here that I want pointers on how to smooth out the different skin tones. If you can tell, right above her eyes for the entirety of her forehead her skin tone is quite a bit darker than the rest of her face and neck. I am not very good at PS and so am looking for pointers to smooth out the tone differences. Or is it something I shouldn't sweat?

Thanks for the help!

My opinion is that if that's her natural skin tone, I'd not change it. People aren't typically the exact same shade all over. They have varying tones all over the place. Otherwise we'd all look like ceramic or plastic dolls.

That's not to say you can't smooth or enhance the skin for blemishes, etc. That's a separate issue.

But if you really must even out the tones, the healing tool in photoshop works wonders.

Hey Trekker

I basically agre with what the others said, if shes happy then why change it.
I did have a go at lightening the forehead though.
My steps were,
Rough lasso around the forehead, copy and paste into new layer.
I decreased saturation -10 and increased lightness by 2.
Changed the layer blend mode to lighten.
Then with the eraser at 30% I blended the edges in to the photo.

I think it looks great as is, but as said above, the healing brush works great.

You can also use the clone tool set to a very low opacity on either lighter or darker mode. That also works really well for those type of edits

Best,
Jay
