I have no concept of using layers ,its the only part of PS that I haven't learned.
Now heres the problem. I need to cut and paste one side of an image onto the other side of the same image . Why ? I need to extend the image I have the subject leaving the frame. The problem I'm having is every time I try to merge the cut onto the original image it either pastes it on top or I just see the cut layer underneath. I've searched for a tut but cant find one ,not even sure of what to call this technique. Can I get a link to a how to or do i need to learn layers from scratch? Save me before I go or burn my PS book .__________________

Hi Dave,
I am not sure that I correctly understand what you are trying to do, but my guess is, that you need to make your "canvas" larger, you can't just add a piece of copied image to the right. You can increase the size of your canvas by going to "image --> canvas size", or by simply creating a new document with a greater width, then, with both documents open, drag the original layer from the layer palette onto the new doc. With the move tool you can then position the top layer (your first image) so that there will be white space to the right. Now copy the part of the image you need and go edit --> paste or simply hit "ctrl+v". This will create an additional layer with your image fragment, although at first you won't see a difference because the copied part will be in the same spot where you copied it from. But use your move tool on the newly created layer and you'll be able to move the copied part around to where you want it. Hope this helped ,Q. |
