Well, you'll probably right, but I'm not to swift at nailing the exposure. 70% of the time i'm underexposed, 20% over exposed, and I only *nail it* 10% of the time.
It seems like I'm always tweaking an image and I get better results by doing it in
a 16 bit .tiff. My most used tool in PS is Shadow & Highlights adj. Go figure...

Auto curve is wonderful if your subject covers most of the frame. If not then
your subject is getting an evaluation from the background also.
