Hi
I did a brief search but couldn't find much. Most Pshop tutorials I see cover USM with RAW or JPEG files from a digital camera of some sort. Well, I primarily use Pshop Elements 5 for working with scanned negatives (much cheaper than contacting in the darkroom). However, I'm very new to the idea of sharpening an image and I wasn't sure if different steps should be taken with negative scans vs. RAW or JPEG images from a camera. If someone can point me in a direction on using Pshop with negative scans or if it should even be treated differently I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks! rob __________________

In general you should treat an image scanned from film the same as you would treat an image from a digital camera. After all, a scanned image is a digital file. With regard to USM (and other post processing) the parameters for some processes will depend on the resolution of the image, both for scans and digital photos. I advise you to scan at a fairly high resolution with a good qauality film scanner and save as a 16 bit tiff file. From that point on the file can be treated exactly the same as a file from a digital camera.
