As a (former) RSP user I've got today an email of Adobe that included to get a free serial for v1.0 of Lightroom.
I will start testing soon and keep you informed. __________________

Well, most often I want to see it for myself. I was a beta tester, but only got hold on the v1.0 version today (The smiley seats post was my first conversion).

Just needling you. We need to know more opinions. There was an interesting thread about its worth, and I put in a quick Develop Presets example to show possibilities.
A decent program in my opinion, but yes, you may like something else better. |

I did a search and found nothing on Camel but have heard reports elsewhere with problems people had downloading their free copy. There was one suggestion that seemed reasonable that the number of people trying to get their free copy overtaxed their system but there is always the question of compatiblilty with certain browsers or operating systems not to mention firewall or cookie protection s/w. Ordinarily I'd just try it and fail, change something and try again but the notice from Adobe is quite clear that we get only one download and I have no idea when in the process we will be credited as having used up our one life. Just as I have no desire to be the first kid on the block to own Vista, I admit I'll feel better when we hear more success stories from those who braved the download rush.
Keep on posting. As far as I'm concerned this timing could be better. I'm still trying to figure out the changes that came with the new Camel (can't love the loss of features like notice of posts to my threads). There will always be those of us who would have prefered seeing what Pixmantic could have done with their very useable product. Adobe usually assumes we have a gig of resources for every year of our age so I can only assume that Lightroom will finish off my hard drive but I'll enjoy seeing what else is waiting in the wings. Will it convert 40D images on a Vista computer? ![]() |

The only real problem other than the download not working (over taxation, like you said), is that people fill out the "form" and it doesn't give them the serial number (Of course, this is for RSP users).
I have heard that people just redo it and it appears in the specified box. If that fails, or kills your "one life", then I'd contact Adobe. Also, click on "Quick Links" in the top right, scroll down to "Subscribed Threads" and it will give you replies to your posts. Also, when viewing the whole board, any posts you replied to will have a graying check mark just to the right of the center, under the word rating... |

I didn't have any trouble downloading it with Firefox, have tried it out for a day.
My take: the raw conversion (to tiff) is a lot better than the beta, it's now actually quite close to RSP whereas the beta was definitely inferior in terms of image detail. I haven't figured out how to fine tune it so can't say whether or not I can fix it - it sharpens more by default than what I can set RSP for which is a bit much when looking closely but likely can't tell by looking at a print. However the colour is not as accurate nor does it show as much fine gradations as RSP - maybe that's due to the custom profile I have for RSP (via Mike Chaney of Qimage fame). Maybe you can put a custom profile into Lightroom, I don't know yet. But it's totally non-intuitive UI (to me) is making me leave it on the shelf. Until the day I get a new camera RSP is my choice, plus I already have a decent ingest/storage workflow via Photo Mechanic. Ken |

There are other presets available to do lots of different things, and you can modify those making new ones, or overwriting the existing. First week of March or so, any custom RawShooter profiles that were available (from Pixmantec) will be converted and made available to Lightroom, per Adobe. I have heard others "complain" about the interface not being as intuitive as RSP, but that isn't the case in my opinion. I think both are about the same. In LR's case, all the developing things are in a pane on the right side like RSP's, and you go thru the sections as needed. RSP had some tabs on their's, and so does LR. I don't think the interface is any less intuitive than others. Bibble was/is really confusing and too mashed into spaces comparatively speaking to me. |
