Default One of my first paid retouch jobs. What would you have done better?

The client was happy with this retouch job, but I'd like to know what
you guys think. Where did I overdo it, and where can it be improved?

You certainly did a good job removing the imperfections in her skin and got some nice highlights in the hair. But she looks a little anemic. Just a little more color to the lips and warm up the face & body.

Cheers/Mike

My first thoughts were a bit over exposed but otherwise a nice job.

Yes, I was also thinking she looked a bit pallid.
I added a little rouge to the chest and face.

I Guys, my first post on PhotoCamel

The first thing I noticed was the background, try to balance it .

Some details that can do the difference, in my opinion:
• remove ear highlight;
• correct the string of the bra...is curled;
• correct the hairs on the forehead;
• match the color of the two rubber band that pin the plaits;
• change colour of the bra with another one that can go with her eyes colour;

Overall it's a fairly good work, but the picture is too small to help with the details...

Big improvement from before to after but the skin seems unnaturally smooth. Try the 'Add noise...' filter with a bit of uniform, monochrome noise. Just use a little bit to give the skin some life, how much depends on the image resolution. Use a mask to isolate the effect to just the really smooth parts of her skin.

blumesan - pretty much said it right. Generally I will go easy on each step, that way you ease into what looks best. Technically perfect doesn't mean the most pleasing.

I would suggest you add a little red and a little yellow to the skin tones consider this relationship when doing caucasion skin...

On the info pallette look at the cmyk numbers and shoot for
less than 10% cyan
3x that amount of Magenta
and then some extra yellow so the numbers would look like this- C 10 M 30 Y 40

Also try to use the dodge tool ever so lightly on the side oppisite the catchlight.

very nice retouching the skin is well smoothed out.

i cant improve much on the advice you have recieved, i do agree that the skin tone is a tad pit to pale or slightly stiff, i agree with blinkey's suggestion by adding and using the add noise filter to bring is some blood shall we say. but over all you did quite a remarkable job on your first retouch job. it only gets better with time.

Just warm up the skin tones, and I think you should be good.

Nice job!
